The Rubiaceae is the largest family among dicotyledons in Peninsular Malaysia. A preliminary study on the stand structure and composition of trees from this family was conducted in the lowland dipterocarp forest at Behrang Forest Reserve, Perak. Three study plots measuring 25 m x 20 m (0.05 hectares) were randomly established along selected trails. The total plot area was 0.15 ha. The survey involved all trees with a diameter at breast height (DBH) of 1.0 cm and above. The trees were tagged, and leaf samples were collected, preserved, and identified to the genus or species level. A total of 11 species from 10 genera and 44 individuals were recorded. Urophyllum was represented by two species, while the other nine genera were each represented by a single species. The tree density for the Rubiaceae family was 293 individuals per hectare. At the genus level, Chassalia recorded the highest density, with 67 individuals per hectare, and at the species level, Chassalia curviflora was the densest species with a density of 67 individuals per hectare. The DBH class of 1.0–4.9 cm was represented by the highest number of individuals, with a total of 40 trees. This study contributes additional data to the floristic information of the state of Perak.
