Abstract

The design of agricultural product packaging plays a significant role in promoting rural economic development and increasing the added value of agricultural products as the rural revitalization strategy is implemented. This study introduces the importance of agricultural product packaging design in rural development and analyses the current status of such designs, proposing a series of innovative strategies. These include strengthening the integration of packaging intelligence and functionality, enhancing information interaction, incorporating regional culture, shaping brand image and storytelling, and diversifying packaging forms. Specifically, integrating packaging intelligence and functionality can be achieved through adopting smart sensing technology and sustainable materials to protect agricultural products while providing additional functions. Enhancing information interaction implies incorporating QR codes or AR technology on packaging to enable consumers to access more information about the product, thereby increasing its appeal. Incorporating regional culture can be realized by reflecting local traditional elements and cultural symbols in packaging design to enhance the product's regional characteristics and identity. Building brand image and storytelling as well as diversifying packaging forms contribute to enhancing the competitiveness and attractiveness of products, attracting more attention and recognition from consumers. Therefore, this study holds significant theoretical implications for guiding agricultural product packaging design, promoting rural economic development, establishing distinctive brands, as well as practical implications for enhancing rural image. Finally, this study proposes future research directions, including the application of sustainable packaging design and smart packaging technology, to further advance the development of agricultural product packaging design and achieve the long-term goals of the rural revitalization strategy.
