Abstract

The traditional business model, brick-and-mortar retail businesses are facing survival challenge due to the trend of online shopping which offer more discounts, better customization and personalized offer. It has many limitations for example shoppers can only see the product without additional information and unable to make instant comparison among similar products and unable to look at product reviews to make informed decision. Shoppers’ shopping experience have been rising continuously which include the preference for an omnichannel experience. In this regard, digital retail aims to engage more customers, drive sales and offer unique shopping experience. Hence, this research has utilized Augmented Reality to enhance shopping experience, which lead to the development of ShopAssistAR. It is a transformative mobile application that combines Augmented Reality (AR) technology and a comprehensive digital product catalog to enhance the conventional supermarket shopping experience. The application leverages marker-based AR to enable customers to scan specific product markers, instantly presenting pertinent product details on their mobile device's live camera feed. This information, drawn from a digital catalog integrated within the application, provides comprehensive details such as pricing, promotional offers, and nutritional facts, thereby offering an immersive and informative shopping experience. ShopAssistAR also incorporates an integrated product browsing feature for customers to plan their shopping list thus improving efficiency, as well as a video advertisement platform to acquaint customers with new products and deals. By unifying these innovative features in a user-friendly interface, ShopAssistAR redefines supermarket shopping by delivering cost-effectiveness, time efficiency, and enhanced consumer engagement.
