This paper presents a comparative study of two control methods for a 2MW Doubly-Fed Induction Generator Wind Turbine (DFIG-WT) using MATLAB Simulink. The Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and Model Predictive Control (MPC) control methods were implemented and evaluated in terms of their ability to track reference signals, disturbances tolerance and stabilize the system under uncertain wind conditions. The performance of the control methods was assessed using a high-fidelity WT model that incorporates the dynamics of the wind turbine, the wind speed, and the control system. The results show that the MPC control method outperform the PID control method in terms of tracking accuracy and disturbance tolerance.
