Abstract

This review summarizes various researches and studies on two topics. The first section, focuses on the numerical and experimental studies using water and air over backward and forward facing steps (BFS and FFS). The second section, concentrates on the numerical and experimental studies using nanofluids over single, double and triples BFS and FFS, turbulators heat exchangers and microscale channels. The main purpose is to review the recent available results of the flow and heat transfer presented in the literature for single backward and backward facing steps. The second purpose is to understand the characteristics and functions of nanofluids, to expect their effects and heat transfer enhancement in such geometries. The third purpose is to present the recent published researches and propose suggestions that could lead to study new types of channels and heat exchangers using nanofluids.
